BUSINESS MANAGER- BROADCAST AND AV SERVICES

POSITION TYPE: Full-time; administrative professional

DEPARTMENT: Northern Michigan University Learning Resources Division/WNMU TV/FM and Audio Visual Services

ANNUAL SALARY RANGE: $34,068-$37,508

Immediately and continue until the position is filled

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY:

Perform business, operational and financial activities of the Learning Resources Division including WNMU-TV, WNMU-FM, Engineering and Audio Visual Services.  Initiate, process, document and review departmental financial transactions ensuring compliance with generally-accepted accounting principles, University policies, federal grant requirements and Internal Revenue Services rules and regulations.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare local, state and federal funding/grant budgets and reports and monitor expenditures.

Research, compile and prepare materials for annual audited financial statements, other required financial reports, required certification documents, and surveys.

Analyze and review budgets ensuring expenditure control and compliance with funding and reporting requirements.

Process budget and financial transactions.

Monitor contracts for tower and land leases with local, state and federal agencies; invoice as appropriate and authorize payments; and adjust for yearly rate increases.

Provide oversight and supervision of clerical staff to verify accuracy of fund raising revenue and reconcile station receipts and provide functional supervision over AP staff regarding departmental invoices and billings.

Responsible for WNMU reception area including hiring, training and scheduling of student customer service reception employees.

Provide oversight on assigned special projects to ensure compliance with grant reporting requirements.

Maintain fixed assets/equipment inventory.

Responsible for reporting and processing department activities, e.g., monthly copier usage report, petty cash expenses and reimbursements, payment of commissions for FM personnel for TV sales.

Assist the General Manager in the preparation of license renewals, employment reports and other FCC documents.

Participate on committees as requested.

Perform duties of a lower classification as required.

Work in a safe manner being aware of personal safety and the safety of others.

Responsible for observing safety, health and sanitation codes, regulations, or practices required by university or governmental authority.

Perform related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Supervision is received from the Director of Broadcast and Audio Visual Services.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Exercises supervision over student staff and functional supervision over clerical and administrative/professional staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1.Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.

2.Three years’ work experience in accounting reporting and preparing and analyzing financial statements.

3.Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations/tax laws governing charitable giving, fundraising and unrelated business income.

4.Ability to effectively communicate.

5.Excellent analytical skills and the ability to multi-task.

6.Ability to accurately and efficiently perform required computerized tasks to include any combination of word processing, spreadsheet, data base, e-mail, internet, or web-based  applications.
